Short Pin up Hairstyles 2013

Short Pin up Hairstyles 2013

I have fairly short hair and I always get stuck doing hairstyles. It's not a very good cut in the first place to style (short on the sides and a long part on top - bad choice). So I usually curl it and do 2 elevated pin curls on top with one side of my hair tucked away behind my ear and the rest hanging on the other side. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas I could try to change it up a little.

Short Pin up Hairstyles 2013: Wanting to rock a pinup hairstyle is common, but actually pulling it off is something else altogether. Although those cute ‘50s pinups might look as if they put next to no effort into their hair, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Pinup looks take work to get and maintain, but you too can show ‘em off with the help of a few basic accessories and products.

Waves of Hollywood

The soft, wavy look of old Hollywood is a great one for short hair. It works best if your hair is naturally straight, but if you have curls, you can also get the look by first spending some quality time with your flatiron. Pin most of your hair back and then unpin in wide sections, curling each with a wide iron. Finish by pressing hair flat against your head and securing with bobby pins or barrettes.

Pixie Cutie

The pixie cut, with short bangs and feminine layers, is another classic rockabilly look. Have a beautician cut your bangs to a Hepburn-like length, or sweep them to the side and pin them behind the top of your cheekbones to fake the effect. To accentuate the curves of your neckline and jaw structure, work serum into your short layers and ruffle them just slightly. Add red lipstick, and you’re good to go!

The Shaved Head

Nothing says punk and rockabilly quite like a shaved head, but it takes a woman with guts to actually get one. If you can manage to take the plunge, you’ll be rewarded with a ‘do that emphasizes your facial structure, complexion and eye color. If shaving off all your hair still sounds too terrifying, you can get a punkier look that’s still pinup worthy by shaving just a portion of your head under longer hair or going for a Mohawk-inspired style that lets one extended wave of hair flop to the side of your head.

Perfect Pompadour

Short Pin up Hairstyles 2013: A pompadour is a classic pinup look that can be hard to achieve. It’ll certainly turn heads, but it’s not worth tearing your own gorgeous hair out in an effort to get it absolutely perfect. Although it’s easier to rock a pompadour with medium to long hair, you can also do it with shorter locks. Latrice Strader, a master hairstylist, tells "Essence" magazine that all you need for the look is a bottle of hairspray, a rat-tail comb, and a five-inch section of hair. “Use the comb to tease four inches out of the five, leaving out the first inch by your hairline,” she says. “Smooth the piece back over the teased section, secure with bobby pins, and mist with a light holding spray.”
